winter's last hurrah cocktail
winter is hanging on with everything it has...on the plus side, march snowstorms that cause all of dc to shut down call for cocktails!
we discovered this cocktail through pure coincidence and experimentation - we had some blood oranges that needed to be used (is it just me or were blood oranges everywhere this season?!) and the world's largest bottle of kentucky bourbon taking up space on our bar. Why not combine them? Turns out, you should combine them. you definitely should. With a little bit of simple syrup - and if you're feeling brave - a little bit of ginger, this cocktail certainly does not suck! (recipe below)
blood orange bourbon cocktail
- 4 oz bourbon
- 1 c. fresh squeezed blood orange juice
- simple syrup to taste
- fresh minced ginger root (optional)
- ice cubes
in a cocktail shaker, combine the ice, bourbon, blood orange juice, simple syrup, and a bit of ginger. shake hard and pour into glasses over ice. enjoy.
